ANDREA COATES
Andrea Coates studied art studio and advertising strategy, earning both undergraduate degrees from the University of Kentucky. She has worked professionally with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, Nine PBS, Island Press at Washington University, and Brado. Coates is also an educator teaching graphic design, digital imaging, and illustration at St. Charles Community College.
Her thesis work for her MFA from Washington University in St. Louis, Fabricated Images and Bodily Failures, was exhibited at the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum in St. Louis. Recent works have been featured in national publications and exhibitions, including Brown University’s Synecdoche Magazine; Washington University’s The Spectacle; University of Pittsburgh’s Hot Metal Bridge; and LBIF’s National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper, 2016, 2017, and 2019 juried by Carter E. Foster, curator of drawing, and Jane Panetta, associate curator of drawing, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and Dr. Louis Marchesano, senior curator of drawing, prints, and photographs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
