DAVID ROBINSON

David Robinson was born and raised in a small town in the Mississippi Delta. Much of his youth was spent exploring the pristine woods and bodies of water near his home. His father was a dedicated sportsman, so most weekends were spent hunting and fishing with him on and around the Mississippi River. However, throughout his life, he has always found the greatest solace as a maker and has produced objects in a variety of media including stained glass, drawing, painting, and print-making, among other things- anything involving working with his hands. Years later, while working full-time as an adult, he studied drawing and painting at Georgia State University, although his undergraduate degree was in English and French. Around the year 2000, he discovered ceramics and fell in love and committed himself to working exclusively in clay. During this period, he studied ceramics for years at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Atlanta. He also enrolled in as many ceramics workshops in the Southeast as he could afford and as time would permit, again, while working full-time. In 2015, he “quit his day job” and began a new career as a full-time studio ceramist. Within months of becoming a full-time ceramist, he applied to and was accepted into some of the most prestigious residency programs in the US and the world. These included The Hambidge Center, The Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts, Anderson Ranch Arts Center, and Gaya Ceramic Arts Centre in Bali. In the summer of 2022, he spent three months at the Guldagergaard International Ceramic Research Center in Denmark. His work has been selected for many important exhibitions throughout the United States and recently had a solo show at {Poem88} in Atlanta, Georgia in 2021.
