CARRIE GILLEN

Carrie Gillen’s interdisciplinary work is an exploration of materials used in contemporary building practice, design, and fabrication. She manipulates these materials, investigating and finding visual signifiers that represent a discourse with space. Gillen is interested in re-ordering the material that surrounds, protects, and often defines our livelihood.

Carrie is a St. Louis-based installation artist, sculptor, painter, scenic designer, and educator. She received her B.A. from Loyola University in New Orleans, and her MFA from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She is the recipient of the SIUE Jose Jimenez Public Art Award and the Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis Artist Support Grant. Currently, Carrie is a member of Intersect Arts Center, a non-profit studio, gallery, and education center supporting the south side neighborhoods of St. Louis.
